Where MAG 254 taught the world the MAG device, MAG 256 made the MAG portal snappier. Extra RAM and a later Linux stack mean category scrolling and HEVC Full HD are less of a gamble than on a 254 that has been on the same firmware since 2016.
Stock MAG 256 expects Ethernet or a USB Wi-Fi stick. If your unit is labelled MAG 256 W1 or MAG 256 W2, use those dedicated pages — the MAG portal URL is the same idea, the radio is not.
We issue MAG 256 the same MAG portal family as MAG 254, with a profile that can use the extra memory. Start with the MAG portal test; if the 256 feels like a new box, the 12-month MAG portal term is usually the value pick.
