W1 means one-band Wi-Fi. Place the MAG 256 W1 where 2.4 GHz is clean; brick walls and microwave ovens still win. Ethernet remains the MAG portal gold standard if the lead reaches.
Portal setup is identical to MAG 256. Join Wi-Fi under network settings, then paste the MAG portal URL. The MAG portal test will tell you if the radio, not the portal, is the weak link.
